Kyocera N82 memory sockets information (my N82 is labeled NEC pc8201 as are most others) removing the back hatch reveals one populated rom socket "rom0" one unpopulated rom socket "rom1" and six ram sockets "ram2" through "ram7" All the sockets are 28pins Inside the machine and slightly to the side of the ram sockets are two hybrid chips each with 4 6117 (2K*8 SRAM) chips on them. This adds up to the existing 16K memory. I assume: filling ram2 and ram3 will put an extra 16k in the first bank and ram 4 through ram 7 are the entirety of the second bank. I think that the pinout looks like this: "t" means tied bus line "i" means individual to each socket "b" is the track that connected ram2&ram3 and ram4-ram7 but not ram3 to ram4 next to the letter is the corresponding pin function from a 2117 (and the second set of numbers on the right are the corresponding pin number for the 2217) -----------\/----------- 1 -| t a7 thick |- 28 24 2 -| t a6 a8 t |- 27 23 3 -| t a5 a9 t |- 26 22 4 -| t a4 rw b?|- 25 21 5 -| t a3 /oe i |- 24 20 6 -| t a2 a10 t |- 23 19 7 -| t a1 /cs t |- 22 18 8 -| t a0 d7 t |- 21 17 9 -| t d0 d6 t |- 20 16 10 -| t d1 d5 t |- 19 15 11 -| t d2 d4 t |- 18 14 12 -| thick----\ d3 t |- 17 13 13 -| i \--- thick |- 16 14 -| i i |- 15 ------------------------ This lets me make some more assumptions: assume standard 24pin 2kx8 6117 sram, assume 4 SMD 6117 packages per plug assume pins 13,14,15 are additional /oe lines to pin 24 So, to replace the functionality of this memory: I need 6 * 8k device + a 4-2 encoder or I need 2 * 16k device + a 8-3 encoder or I need 1 * 64k device + a 24-3 encoder or I need 1 * 16k device + 8-3 encoder and 1 * 32k device + 16-4 encoder What I saw when I visually traced the tracks behind the sockets 1 thin ties all 2 t 3 t 4 t 5 t 6 t 7 t 8 t 9 t 10 t 11 t 12 thick ties to 16 (maybe gap between ram2 & ram3) 13 individual 14 individual 15 individual 16 see 12 17 t 18 t 19 t 20 t 21 t 22 t 23 t 24 individual 25 ties ram2 & ram3 ,gap, ram4,5,6,7 26 t 27 t 28 thick trace ties all
